Job Title: Surgical Assistant

Location: Cincinnati, OH 45219

Pay Rate: $50 – $55/hour

Schedule: Day Shift – 4x10s (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)

Department: Surgical Services / Operating Room (OR)

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Surgical Assistant to join a dynamic surgical services team in Cincinnati, OH. This role plays a vital part in supporting surgeons during operative procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and maintaining the highest standards of sterile technique and surgical care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Position patients for surgical procedures under the direction of the surgeon

• Facilitate clear visualization of the operative field through retraction, suctioning, sponging, and tissue manipulation

• Handle sutures and assist in wound closure techniques (e.g., subcutaneous, subcuticular, staples)

• Apply dressings and manage drainage systems post-procedure

• Assist in harvesting veins, arteries, tendons, skin, and aid in grafts or closures as needed

• Maintain the sterile field and adhere to all surgical safety protocols

• Provide technical expertise and support to the surgeon throughout procedures

• Contribute to pre-operative setup and post-operative care as necessary

• Stay up to date with advances in surgical techniques and instrumentation

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Assistant

• Preferred: 4 years of general surgical experience with at least 2 years in a specialty area

• Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program
  
  OR
  Foreign Medical Graduate with at least 3 years of U.S. Surgical Assistant experience (case-by-case evaluation)

• BLS Certification from the American Heart Association (required)

Preferred Certifications (not required but a plus):

• NSAA (National Surgical Assistant Association)

• CFA (Certified First Assistant through AST)

• RNFA with certification from the National Assistant at Surgery Certification (NASC)
