Job Description

Kingston Design Remodeling - Residential Interior Designer

Are you a creative Interior Designer who dreams of making a real impact—on homes, on people, and on a company that values your voice?  Do you thrive in collaborative environments where trust, communication, and ownership are part of everyday work—not just buzzwords?  Ready to grow into a leader, build a name for yourself, and design award-winning spaces?

At Kingston Design Remodeling, we're a family-owned, client-focused remodeling company based in Fairfax Station, VA, and we’re looking for a talented Residential Interior Designer who’s passionate about home transformations. This is more than a job—it’s a place to belong, grow, and become the designer you’re meant to be.

Intro for Company

Founded in 1981 by brothers Austin and John Schmitt, Kingston began as a traditional construction company. But it wasn’t long before Austin’s passion for design transformed the company’s direction. Today, Kingston Design Remodeling is a full-service design-build firm rooted in craftsmanship, creativity, and personal connection. We go beyond construction—we help clients reimagine their homes and bring meaningful, lasting change to the spaces where life happens.

Summary of Responsibilities

As an Interior Designer at Kingston Design Remodeling, you will play a key role in both the creative and logistical sides of residential design projects from start to finish. You’ll manage multiple phases—consultation, design, purchasing, and production—while cultivating strong relationships with clients, vendors, and the internal team. Typically, you will manage 2–3 active projects per month, with responsibilities ranging from client consultations and concept development to product ordering and construction support.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand their vision, needs, and style preferences.
  • Develop creative, functional, and detailed design solutions—including layouts, elevations, and material selections
  • Lead or participate in initial consultations and assist in estimating and closing new design projects.
  • Manage active residential design projects, guiding them through all phases from concept to construction handoff.
  • Coordinate and place orders for cabinetry, countertops, fixtures, and other materials.
  • Prepare accurate and clear design documentation for internal teams and construction crews.
  • Maintain strong, ongoing relationships with clients, vendors, and the internal production team.
  • Provide continued design support during the construction phase to ensure alignment and client satisfaction.
  • Attend vendor events, partnership meetups, and participate in ongoing continuing education as part of professional development.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • 3 years of experience in residential interior design, specifically with kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and whole-house remodeling
  • Skilled in design software like 2020 Design and Chief Architect
  • Proficient in Canva, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with and eager to learn project management systems (e.g., BuilderTrend)
  • Strong understanding of cabinetry design and the ability to clearly communicate concepts to clients
  • Skilled in creating 3D renderings, layouts, and floorplans
  • Certified Interior Designer is a plus

Compensation

  • Salary: $70,000–$90,000, based on experience
  • Bonuses: Potential annual bonus based on company performance
  • Paid Time Off: 2 weeks of vacation per year
  • Gas Assistance: Mileage support via gas card
  • Company Credit Card: Provided after 90 days of employment
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for continuing education and vendor-sponsored events

How to Apply

  • Must include Professional Resume to be considered for this position

We have a formal recruiting process and have a relationship with Zephyr Connects LLC, whom we use for the screening and hiring process. If you are selected for the next step you will get instructions from Svitlana Diak within 3 days of your submission. Everyone will be contacted.
