Job summary:

The goal of the Renewable Advisory Lead for North America is to lead the advisory mandates and business development work for the Renewable Energy Solutions team in North America. You will be responsible to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality consultancy advice to our North American and international corporate clients on corporate renewable energy sourcing and sustainability topics. You will be fully accountable for the development and overall management of proposals and for the implementation of projects within the Renewable Energy Solutions team, for which you will supervise project teams of varying sizes. You will provide technical guidance to the project teams and act as the main point of contact for the client. You will also support the sale of our services by closely collaborating with other center of excellences (CoE) to ensure efficient cross-selling and with the Business Development team to support achieving sales targets. In addition, you may lead the development of new products and solutions at South Pole to address sustainability challenges.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Lead South Pole’s renewable energy advisory efforts across North America, acting as the key point of contact for North American consultancy mandates and prospects.

  • Lead the development of South Pole’s thought leadership, services, products, marketing materials and offerings in renewable energy solutions for North America.

  • Manage and supervise large/complex consulting mandates throughout their entire project cycle: initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure.

  • Plan and implement projects to ensure the most efficient and highest-quality implementation.

  • Interact and build relationships with our US and international clients and manage the timely delivery of mandates.

  • Develop proposals with the Key Account Management team and regularly generate own leads, actively contributing to the Business Development activities of the company.

  • Maintain constant communication with the North America (NAM) and Latin America & Central American (LAC) teams to support cross-selling of our RES services.

  • Provide guidance on and technical leadership in the development of proposals for the corporate sector on corporate renewable energy sourcing and implementation of advisory projects, as well as lead their technical review.

  • Develop and improve specialised skills and knowledge linked to topics and services offered by South Pole.

  • Lead and directly manage small teams of consultants in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context.

  • Topics of engagement may include: Global corporate renewable energy sourcing strategies and roadmaps, renewable energy target setting (e.g. RE100), energy attribute certificates, green tariffs, corporate PPAs, on-site renewables, RE100 compliance and CDP/RE100 reporting, supply chain engagement and wider scope 1 energies.

Requirements:

Essential -

  • University degree, ideally at a Master’s level or higher, in a sustainability-related field. In Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy Policy, Economics or sustainability/energy-related disciplines;

  • Relevant knowledge of renewable energy sourcing challenges in multinational companies.

  • Relevant work experience (the expectation is a minimum of 7 years) in energy consulting or related fields.

  • Deep understanding of the US electricity market.

  • Experience in PPAs

  • Experience in energy markets

  • Experience in the US RECs market.

  • Excellent project management skills, from both a technical and administrative standpoint, and proven ability to guide multinational project teams in a multi-stakeholder context.

  • Excellent writing skills, with proven expertise in creating and reviewing high-quality google slides or powerpoint presentations (proposals and deliverables).

  • Excellent stakeholder and client management skills.

  • Industry-relevant connections, with a network of potential US clients

  • Demonstrable commercial skills and good business sense so as to be able to identify and seize opportunities in a challenging and competitive market environment.

  • Excellent oral and written skills in English.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Desirable - 

  • Good working knowledge of all Google Suite applications and MS Word.

  • Diligent, reliable and proactive.

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced international environment.

  • Excellent prioritisation and time management skills.

  • Experience in renewable investments.

  • Experience in onsite renewable appraisals.
