The Crisis Center for South Suburbia is a non-profit community organization that provides emergency shelter and other essential services for individuals and families victimized by domestic violence and addresses the societal issues that contribute to domestic violence.

Today, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia operates a 54-bed emergency shelter and has annual impact on the lives of more than 10,000 people. With a staff of more than 83 employees and a budget of over seven million dollars, the Crisis Center continues to grow while offering free services to Chicago’s south suburban communities.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing outreach and building relationships with other hospitals for the Medical Advocacy Program. Provide domestic violence education and training to hospital professionals and medical staff as part of the medical-based domestic violence prevention and intervention program. Responsible for providing medical advocacy coverage when needed at hospitals and other medical facilities. The Medical Advocate will uphold the Mission & Values of the Crisis Center for South Suburbia.

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM OR Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide consistent direct client service and caring crisis intervention as needed in the course of providing medical advocacy services to clients.
  • Conduct routine domestic violence screenings of patients in the Emergency Department as well as other participating departments in the hospital; consult regularly with hospital teams to review cases and coordinate calls and follow-up as appropriate.
  • Provide on-call coverage for assigned and rotating shifts as part of the hospital crisis response.

Provide domestic violence education and training to hospital professionals and medical staff:

  • Participate in the development and presentation of training and workshops on domestic violence to hospital personnel and off-site providers.
  • Provide targeted outreach to hospital teams and departments in order to increase referrals, consultation and training requests and awareness of patients affected by domestic violence.

Organizational/Administrative responsibilities:

  • Meet regularly with Director Support Services to review program activity, and services issues, including a routine review of service documentation and other program information to assure compliance with program standards and service goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Responsible for providing outreach and building relationships with other hospitals:

  • Set up and conduct meetings with key individuals at hospitals that are interested in becoming part of the Program.
  • Participate in the development and presentations of the Medical Advocacy Program to hospitals that are interested in being part of the Program.
  • Track and maintain accurate records of Program statistics.
  • Submit monthly reports as required by program standards.

Education Required: Bachelor's Degree
