Job Summary

As the General Manager at Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Boston, MA, you will oversee all aspects of dining and food services, ensuring operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in line with client expectations. You’ll manage a team, maintain strong relationships with employees, clients, and guests, and contribute to the growth and success of the operation. This role involves a mix of financial management, team leadership, and interdepartmental collaboration. The General Manager will also work closely with the catering department and contribute to the strategic alignment of dining services with the overall facility operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead employee meetings, reviews, and training programs to ensure high performance
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage the budget, monitor food costs, and uphold quality standards in food service.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with staff, clients, guests, and other departments.
  • Oversee financial aspects of the operation, including sales, P&L reports, budgeting, and cash handling.
  • Analyze financial trends and provide data-driven recommendations for improvements.
  • Supervise purchasing, inventory control, and menu planning in collaboration with chefs.
  • Ensure adherence to HACCP guidelines for food safety and quality control.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with health, safety, and fire regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of upscale food service experience at the management level.
  • Experience in hiring, supervising, evaluating, and developing personnel.
  • Proven ability to meet company goals and client expectations while adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Ideal candidate resides in or around the Boston market to ensure seamless coordination and availability.
  • Fine dining experience is essential, as well as high-level leadership experience in a similar role (Assistant GM, GM, or Director).
  • Proven background in managing high-end hotels, restaurants, or similar upscale hospitality accounts.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster team development, operational excellence, and client satisfaction.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and financial management skills.
  • Expertise in food purchasing, cost control, and inventory management.
  • Proficiency in creating and managing budgets, financial reports, and forecasts.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and bank reconciliations.
  • Strong understanding of HACCP food safety guidelines.
  • Exceptional client relations and business etiquette.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • ServSafe or Department of Health certification is a plus.
